Brief History Of Kids' Place
 
 

1991
Citizens Against Abuse Task Force created. Founders Tim Shugrue (prosecutor), Detective Joe
Collias (Pittsfield) and Detective Robert Canale (North Adams) develop the Children’s Advocacy
Center model in Berkshire County.

1993
Legal incorporation as a nonprofit (501c3).


1995
Re-accreditation with NCA achieved. Building purchased for the advocacy center building on
63 Wendell Ave. in Pittsfield. Renovation by GE Elfun Program takes place to advocacy center.

1996
Kids’ Place opens doors to clients.

1997
Full membership with National Children’s Alliance (NCA) achieved.

2001
North Adams office opened (at EFC).

2003
Climbing Wall is built.

2004
Full accreditation with NCA achieved.

2005
SAIN program is now managed by DA office.
Full time SAIN coordinator assigned to Kids’ Place.

2006
SANE nurse position established.

2010
Affiliation with Hillcrest Educational Centers.
Re-accreditation with NCA.
