Berkshire County Kids' Place has a mental health treatment team comprised of therapists who provide free trauma therapy to kids and their non-offending caregivers who have been affected by physical abuse, sexual abuse, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), and domestic violence.

Our mental health providers are trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which is an evidence-based approach that has shown statistical evidence in helping children, adolescents, and their non-offending caregivers overcome trauma-related difficulties.

TF-CBT is a multi-step treatment model that typically lasts between 12 and 24 sessions. The data suggests that it effectively treats kids ages 4-18 years old, and their non-offending caregivers. The treatment steps include:

-
Learning about trauma (psycho-education)
-
Learning relaxation and stress-management skills
-
Identifying, figuring out, and processing feelings
-
Learning new and healthier ways of thinking
-
Discussing, and processing trauma experience
-
Sharing trauma experience with caregiver/chosen adult
-
Learning and practicing safety skills, and assertiveness training
Kids' Place mental health team also offers a variety of free clinical, support, and education groups on a regular basis. These groups include the following:
